As Friday releases its social film Padman, Akshay Kumar already presents his next project: Gold. Again, the project is based on real facts but the tone adopted seems much more serious. The film tells the true story of a field hockey enthusiast who dreamed of being the coach who would win the first Indian gold medal in history after the declaration of independence.
At the helm, we find the director Reema Kagti to whom we owe the dark film Talaash. She also co-directed the screenplays of Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara and Dil Dhadakne Do. The talented artist is supported once again by Excel Entertainment in production. On the cast, Akshay Kumar takes the title role, with secondary roles by Mouni Roy, Kunal Kapoor, Amit Sadh, and Vineet Kumar Singh.
Gold will be released in theaters on Independence Day, August 15, 2018. Combining biopic and sports film, two extremely popular genres in India, it will inevitably attract all eyes. Let's see what the teaser promises us:
As always with sports films, and as often with Akshay Kumar, Gold will have its dose of nationalism and glorification of India. However the teaser marks by its neat aesthetics. A striking achievement that reminds us how Talaash was a visual nugget. Akshay Kumar regularly tries the film of time but he seems to find here his genre project the best worked, the most convincing in terms of staging.
The actor also confirms that with more serious and social choices in recent years, he definitely masters the dramatic register. We feel that he finds here a new charismatic and striking role! At times, this teaser reminds us of some emotions of Chak De India!, although equalizing such a classic will certainly be very delicate, if not impossible. Still, Gold presents itself as an interesting film, particularly well done and interpreted with accuracy by its main actor. Whats more? This is a project that deserves to be followed closely.
